Te Hotu Manawa Maori

Te Hotu Manawa Maori is the longest established and highly respected provider of public health advice to Maori – by Maori.  In 2011 Te Hotu saw the need to refine and update their original tohu and identity. Paradigm worked with Bernard Makoare to design a new tohu that is used in conjunction with an image of red blood cells – the picture of good heart health! For a new Maori-focused quit smoking initiative, we also designed a resource including a porotiti, a traditional Maori wind instrument whirled over a person with a tohunga’s breath. Made from pohutukawa and puriri, and lasered with a traditional design, the porotiti gives a smoker something to do with their hands, a distraction from picking up another cigarette.
